Significant growth in market for ultrasonic sensors

05 March 2018

Precision Acoustics specialises in the research and development of ultrasound test equipment used extensively in the QA of medical devices, to provide industry with ultrasonic NDT and within academia and national measurement institutes throughout the world.

Ultrasonic sensors are used to quantify the distance to an object with the help of sound waves. A sound wave is sent at a frequency and then tuning in for that sound wave to bounce back. By recording the elapsed time between the sound wave that is being produced and the sound wave that it is bouncing back it is possible to calculate the separation between the sonar sensor and the object.

Significant growth predicted in sensor technology for smart factories

A US based market research study** identifies sensor technology for smart factories as one of the significant growth factors over the next five years. Industry 4.0 concepts and the drive towards more highly automated and digitalised smart factories is forecast to develop considerably in the coming years. The US market for ultrasonic sensors is currently the largest and research predicts that this could be worth $1.62 billion by 2023.

Precision Acoustics – global player

The Dorset based company is identified in the research as one of the leading global players in the design and manufacture of ultrasonic equipment.

The company works closely with the research and metrology establishments around the world to further ultrasound research and assist in the development of international standards within ultrasonics.
