CC-Link IE TSN launch at Hannover Messe

24 May 2019

During the event, Mr. Masaki Sakuyama, Chairman of Mitsubishi Electric, visited the CLPA’s stand and discussed the impact of the CLPA’s latest open industrial Ethernet technology, CC-Link IE TSN, on the factories of the future.

Mr. Sakuyama was welcomed to the CLPA’s stand at this year’s Hannover Messe by Mr. Masaki Kawazoe, Global Director at CLPA. The Mitsubishi Electric chairman’s visit demonstrated the strong support that CLPA enjoys from this key partner and reaffirmed its commitment to fast-track the implementation of the CLPA’s latest Time Sensitive Networking Ethernet technology, CC-Link IE TSN.

The meeting between Mr. Sakuyama and Mr. Kawazoe followed Mitsubishi Electric’s announcement regarding the future release of 102 CC-Link IE TSN compatible devices, such as HMIs, PLCs, servos, inverters and robots. This is a strong and clear statement about Mitsubishi Electric’s views on the role that this open Ethernet technology is expected to play in future industrial network communications.

CC-Link IE TSN is designed to address the growing needs of Smart Factories and Industry 4.0 applications, i.e. fast and reliable communications as well as convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) to build Industry 4.0 systems. This is achieved by focusing on three key areas: Performance, Connectivity and Intelligence. The technology is also the first open Ethernet solution to combine Gigabit bandwidth and Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), to carry both time-critical process data and less sensitive traffic in a highly efficient and reliable way.

In addition to the strong support being demonstrated by Mitsubishi Electric, a total of over fifty other companies have indicated their plans to consider development for CC-Link IE TSN. These businesses offer a wide variety of different automation devices, hence the CLPA anticipates that CC-Link IE TSN will develop into a comprehensive automation networking solution. The companies will be supported by a strong development ecosystem that includes many of the leading open automation network platform vendors, ensuring that a growing catalogue of compatible products is guaranteed.

John Browett, General Manager at CLPA Europe was also on the stand at Hannover Fair, and commented: “CC-Link IE TSN offers a future proof open industrial Ethernet solution to boost performance, connectivity and intelligence in modern manufacturing and we are delighted to see our key partners, such as Mitsubishi Electric, share our vision by implementing this technology soon after its launch. We are looking forward to a successful cooperation that will see CC-Link IE TSN integrated into Mitsubishi Electric’s products for industrial automation. In this way, plant engineers and machine builders will benefit from a range of high-performance solutions for Industry 4.0 applications.”
