Remote machine monitoring speeds up commissioning and troubleshooting

01 August 2019

A VPN-based remote assistance service eliminates the need for physical access to field devices, reducing a specialist machine builder’s fault response times from days to minutes.

A secure remote monitoring and maintenance package is reducing site visits, more effi-ciently helping with commissioning and improving the response time for troubleshooting of high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Maximator is a leading manufacturer and supplier of pumps and boosters, valves, fittings and tubing for high pressure gas and fluids. Its UK subsidiary also assembles these components into advanced and specialist testing, pressure and control systems. It saw an opportunity to extend its long-standing working relationship with industrial automation specialist B&R, by integrating the Secure Remote Maintenance service into some of its specialist machines and systems. Maximator UK can now remotely access its installed base of machines and view the customer’s HMI in order to support and guide them through production tasks or to provide programming and diagnostics of the software.

Before Secure Remote Maintenance, Maximator UK’s engineers would need to travel extensively to customer sites, so they could witness first-hand how they were interacting with the machine, explain any operating procedures during commissioning or fix small oversights that the customer may have incurred. Furthermore, once the machine is oper-ational, customers often want to add functionality to further automate their process, such as when they discover a production bottleneck, or someone needs to undertake a repeti-tive task. This often entails writing software. To keep costs to a minimum, Maximator UK’s engineers can now remotely access the machine and update the software, saving time and costs.
