A new smartphone quality standard for young users

06 April 2021

The smartphone brand realme, held the realme x TÜV Rheinland Quality Standards Launch Event, announcing realme’s new smartphone quality standard for young users.

Based on research of younger users, realme and TÜV Rheinland jointly created the TÜV Rheinland Smartphone High Reliability Certification, based on the initial 3-year life cycle experience. realme C21 is the first smartphone to obtain the certification.

realme sets higher quality standard with TÜV Rheinland

realme has been working with TÜV Rheinland on a reliability certification to bring its quality control procedures to the next level.

realme is the first smartphone brand in the world to get TÜV Rheinland High Reliability Certification. It will be using this set of quality standard procedures to do quality control and tests across all of the realme smartphones.

TÜV Rheinland quality certification

After over eight months of research and testing, TÜV Rheinland and realme jointly created the TÜV Rheinland Smartphone High Reliability Certification, which serves as the leading industry standard for major markets worldwide.

The TÜV Rheinland Smartphone High Reliability Certification process encompasses 23 major tests, including ten daily use test scenarios, such as drop, wear, and tear. There are seven extreme environment test scenarios — including super extreme temperature, extreme humidity, voltage fluctuation, button life, static electricity, and air pressure — and six component reliability test scenarios.

Smart factory, aiming to be fully automated in the near future

Consistency is one of the key attributes to making high-quality products. realme has been investing in its smart factory which aims to be fully automated in the near future. Through this, realme can improve the efficiency and precision of complex manufacturing processes.

One such automation example is the SMT production line, which is responsible for putting components onto the PCB motherboard. The current automation rate in the smart factory is 87.5%, which is already way above the industry standard.

Thanks to the AI automation capability, the current realme AI smart factory can produce 60 million devices every year.

Designed to be high-quality

realme believes that high-quality products begin with excellent design thinking. Many people think realme smartphones are built around trendsetting design and leap-forward technology. At the same time, realme designs products with quality first in mind. realme follows this set of principles and criteria strictly when designing any product. All realme products will have a trendsetting design powered by leap-forward technology, produced through rigorous quality control.

Quality Control team has a veto right to reject the inferior quality products

There is a six-stage process for how smartphones are designed, developed, and tested in their factory. The Quality Control team are involved in every step to check the product quality.

At any one point, if the product fails to meet the quality standards, the Quality Control team has a veto right to reject the inferior quality product, and the rejected products will be redesigned from scratch.

Quality designed for digital natives

Based on the lifestyle and scenarios of young users', such as travel and extreme outdoor sports, realme has carried out more vigorous tests in related environmental settings.

To withstand accidental drops during popular outdoor sports like skateboarding and parkour, the products go through more aggressive drop tests at a height of up to 1.8 metres at multiple sides and on different surface materials.

As for travel, realme also simulates extreme temperature from -40ºC to 75ºC in an outdoor environmental setting to make sure all realme products survive these factors
