OMRON awarded Silver Class distinction in S&P Global Sustainability Awards 2022

16 November 2022

OMRON has been awarded the Silver Class distinction in the S&P Global Sustainability Awards, which were announced in the Sustainability Yearbook 2022, showcasing the sustainability performance of the world's largest companies.

Based in the US, S&P Global is one of the world's leading providers of research and ratings in the field of socially responsible investing (SRI).

S&P Global assesses roughly 7,500 globally prominent companies in the Environmental, Social, and Governance & Economic Dimensions. Companies within the top 15 percent of each of the 61 industries are listed in the Sustainability Yearbook 2022 for their outstanding initiatives for sustainability (eighty-three Japanese companies, including OMRON, made it into the yearbook this time).

Companies achieving an S&P Global ESG Score within a range of 1 to 5 percent of the top-performing company's score in their industry are awarded a Silver Class distinction (seven Japanese companies, including OMRON, are recognised as such this year).

This time, OMRON was rated highly across the board for environmental, economic and social criteria. In the environmental field, OMRON is advancing its efforts to analyse the risks and opportunities that climate change can have on its business, and disclose relevant information under the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure) Guidance. OMRON has supported this since February 2019, while at the same time having various sets of its environmental data assured by independent third parties. In the economic and social fields, OMRON is forging ahead with disclosure of its initiatives for supply chain management and diversity & inclusion, among others, to further enhance its transparency.

Following the announcement, Senior General Manager Yue Liu of the Sustainability Office commented, "I am thrilled to know that OMRON was awarded the Silver Class distinction by one of the leading sustainability rating organisations of the world. We are particularly honoured that they highly recognised progress in our efforts to realise a carbon-neutral society. While businesses are expected by their stakeholders to play a greater role in achieving the sustainable development of society and are subject to increasing scrutiny, OMRON will remain firm in our endeavours to realise a sustainable and better society, as we join hands with our business partners to address social issues through the practice of the OMRON Principles."
